So I made lots of notes on the Building a Better Battle: HALO 3 AI Objectives talk by Damian Isla, and I finally wrote them up! You can find his slides on this page (direct link), and if you don’t have Office 2007, I made a quick printout to PDF from the 2007 viewer, which is oddly smaller then the original file. I’d recommend glancing through it if you read these, since I don’t usually copy all the stuff off the slides if I can help it. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
So I’ve got my golden top hat in the game, which means I’ve solved enough puzzles in this puzzle-tastic game to get the end of the story. Yay!
But curse you Puzzle 067…curse you! Dastardly hard, grrr. (Read on for my mini review) Continue reading Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Guess the Sound Quiz!

This is my entry in the February 2008 Roundtable, a bit different from a typical discussion or post. I’m doing this in the spirit of not having any audio experience, apart from knowing a few choice sound effects 🙂 I’m going for more recent games I know¹, so if you want some vintage, I suggest this quiz, in all its flash glory. Now on with the entertainment…
Thaaaaat’s right! Welcome to Guess the Sound!
This is your opportunity for winning fame, fortune² and accolades from the crowd, for guessing what game each game sound come from!
Make your way to round 1 to start the quiz!
(If the sounds don’t play, reloading the page or you can download the sound files in a zip archive to listen to).
¹ If you feel this is a bit PC biased, unfair, or otherwise too easy/hard, I can’t do much better since I only own PC games 🙂 and if you want to make your own, I’d love to listen to them too 😉
² Fame and fortune requires winning lottery ticket. Lottery ticket not provided.
If you enjoyed the quiz, why not read about audio in games from these educated chaps?
GDC08 Notes – Streaming Open World Pathfinding
These are my notes from Streaming Open World Pathfinding, Quinn Dunki. Very interesting, and some unique ways to cut down the processing time to make it fast and cheap. Find the slides on her site. Continue reading GDC08 Notes – Streaming Open World Pathfinding
GDC08 Notes – Torpex’s Schizoid
The talk by Bill Dugan entitled Torpex’s Schizoid was part of the Indie Games Summit, and was done on Tueday afternoon. I took down quite a few quick notes from it, since it detailed how to make a game using XNA/C#, through the process and on a shoestring budget. Continue reading GDC08 Notes – Torpex’s Schizoid
GDC08 Notes – Staging Workshop: Visual storytelling Masterclass
Here are my notes from the day-long workshop, Staging Workshop: Visual storytelling Masterclass. It centered around using film and actors to portray (interactive) cutscenes and being able to “prototype” changes made to the actions of the characters to portray events very differently. Interesting stuff and one of the main non-programming things I attended during the week. Continue reading GDC08 Notes – Staging Workshop: Visual storytelling Masterclass
San Francisco final day
I wrote this on Sunday, but had no internet until yesterday, and didn’t upload the relevant pictures until today! Anyway, my final day in San Francisco was good – Chinese New Year festival was cool, pictures included! 🙂 Continue reading San Francisco final day
Passage
I missed this game before, despite it’s press, and it is interesting. Check it out.
Travelling with delays is not fun
I thought a direct flight would be faster, but after having to land in Chicago for an appraisal of a possible water leak into non-cockpit areas, then a delay getting on a new plane then 2 flight attendants refusing to fly, then adding on the pilots running out of legal flight time, the plane got delayed for around 24 hours.
Urg.
I can’t really truly blame United for the original fault and need to land, but the 24 hours delay was ridiculous, so I’ll settle for likely as not choosing BA next time I fly. Next time I’ll pack a spare pair of clothes in my onboard luggage too.
So I’m back – no internet for 3 days hurts (nevermind my jet lag which I plan to crush with an appropriately timed nights sleep), I’ve got a lot to catch up on, never mind reporting about the pretty neat Chinese New Year festival on Saturday among other things.
GDC08 – Friday
Friday – finally perhaps? The last day had a lot going on, and was really interesting. Continue reading GDC08 – Friday
